To “know of” Jason Picus was to like him … to “know” Jason was to love him … to “be loved” by Jason was to know his heart. Jason had the biggest heart and compassion for others. He had “great” love for his family and friends; but his “Greatest” love was for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Jason graduated from high school in 1994 with highest honors and went on to graduate Cum Laude in 1999 from the University of North Texas with a BBA degree.
When in 2001, at the age of 25, Jason became totally disabled due to a brain tumor, his life took on an entirely new normal. He wasn’t able to do many of the things he was accustomed to doing. There would be no more walking without assistance, no more breathing without a trach, no more being able to care for himself, and no more food or drink by mouth. Those are the things Jason couldn’t do. But, since Jason tended to be a “glass half full” eternal optimist, he always tried to be grateful for the things he could do. One of the things Jason gained from his Lord and Savior was his unique ability to pray and become a “Prayer Warrior” as his special ministry.
Jason lived life to the fullest no matter what circumstances he might be going through. He never let being confined to a wheelchair define who he was and what he could do. From that wheelchair he learned to live a life without boundaries. He found a passion to encourage others to live a full and confident life without boundaries as well. Everyone has something that can hold them back, whether it be physical disabilities, emotional scars or a low self-esteem; but these can only hold someone back as much as he or she lets them. He was able to do this until February 2016 when his Lord and Savior, whom he loved with his whole heart, called him home.
Jason lived and left a lasting legacy by his faith, strength and actions. This legacy was a legacy of Hope – Hope in any situation – and – Hope that is found in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
That “Hope” is the foundation for Jason’s Center of Hope.
2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
